Opening to the Word
You can spend a few moments in silence,

to become more mindful of the present moment
and to open yourself more fully
to God’s presence within you.

Short Reflection
John, in his letter to the early Christian community, commends them for their faithfulness, praising especially the young people:
I write to you, young people,
because you are strong
and the word of God abides in you,
and you have overcome the evil one.
This is quite a change for young people, who are often treated as being irresponsible.
Here they are being praised, and rightly so!
The enthusiasm of youth is something that all too easily gets forgotten as we get older.
Their passion for justice, for what’s fair and what’s right, is often dismissed as immature and unrealistic.
Oh, to rediscover that naivete!
Jesus called the little children to him:
the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.
Note “such as these”: those literally children and those spiritually like them, trusting, believing in fairness for all.
Oh, that we were there!

We can say the Lord’s Prayer in any language or version we choose.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those
who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom,
the power and the glory are yours,
now and for ever.
