Short Reflection
Per ardua ad astra
In some ways the motto of the RAF parallels the experience of the early Church.
The disciples, the first followers of the Way, meet persecution and trials at every stage of their journey. Yet they continue proclaiming the Word, Jesus of Nazareth, and rejoice in those who have come to faith through their teaching and example.
For us too, it can be difficult to remain on the path when there are so many difficulties all around us.
No-one said it would be easy.
John Bunyan, in ‘The Pilgrim’s Progress’ makes this very clear.
The road is rough.
Yet we are called to be faithful; not to be successful (although we may be!) but to be faithful to our calling.
Each of us has a vocation; we are called to live the Christian life in the state of life in which we “live and move and have our being”.
Let us earnestly pray to continue to be faithful, and that when we fall, we will have the courage to get up and keep going, knowing that
The Lord is faithful in all his words,
and gracious in all his deeds.
At this time, pray that we may enter ever more deeply into the presence of God, who longs to make God’s home with us.
Pray for those who bring light to those in darkness,
for those who bring hope where there is despair.
Pray for essential workers.
Pray for us all.

1 Stay with us Lord, for day is almost over;
Come to us in peace and greet us with your word.
You we have known, your love has sought and found us:
Speak to us now, our brother and our Lord.

The Lord’s Prayer
You can say this in any language you choose.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.

Concluding prayer
Almighty God,
whom truly to know is everlasting life:

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
