Celebrating Eastertide from Home: Friday in the 2nd Week of Easter
In these worship resources,
we continue our journey in Eastertide.
“If this plan or this undertaking is of human origin, it will fail;
but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them
—in that case you may even be found fighting against God!”
Reflection on Eastertide and ideas for celebrating this season from home
Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud,
be gracious to me and answer me!
‘Come,’ my heart says, ‘seek his face!’
Your face, Lord, do I seek.Exaudi, Domine, vocem meam, qua clamavi ad te;
miserere mei, et exaudi me.
Tibi dixit cor meum: Exquisivit te facies mea;
faciem tuam, Domine, requiram.
Psalm 26 (27):7–8

Reflection
We have seen in previous days how the religious authorities were in a fankle about the apostles’ witness to Jesus.
In contrast to those who wanted Peter and John killed, one stood out: Gamaliel. Holding a senior position (he may even have been president of the Sanhedrin), Gamaliel (Hebrew “reward of God”) was a highly respected teacher of the law; indeed he taught Paul, known before his Damscene conversion as Saul (Acts 22:3).
He reminds the others about other rebellious leaders, both of whom had amassed followers who faded away after these leaders were killed.
He warns them that if this Jesus movement is only human, then it will fail; if it is from God, they will not be able to fight it – indeed, they may end up fighting God.
The rest of the Sanhedrin, seeing his wisdom, order Peter and John not to speak about Jesus.
So naturally, the disciples were always to be found in the temple and elsewhere teaching about Jesus.
—
Pray for wisdom, for courage and a sturdy faith.
Pray for those who bring light into others’ lives.
Pray for us all.

An Eastertide hymn
1 We walk by faith, and not by sight,
no gracious words we hear
of him who spoke as none e’er spoke,
but we believe him near.
2 We may not touch his hands and side
nor follow where he trod;
yet in his promise we rejoice,
and cry, ‘My Lord and God!’
3 Help then, O Lord, our unbelief,
and may our faith abound
to call on you when you are near
and seek where you are found.
4 That when our life of faith is done
in realms of clearer light
we may behold you as you are
in full and endless sight.
5 We walk by faith, and not by sight,
no gracious words we hear
of him who spoke as none e’er spoke,
but we believe him near.
Henry Alford, alt.
The Lord’s Prayer
You can say this in any language you choose.
Here it is, in English, Latin and French.
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those
who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom,
the power and the glory are yours.
Now and for ever. Amen.
Pater noster, qui es in cælis;
sanctificatur nomen tuum:
adveniat regnum tuum;
fiat voluntas tua,
sicut in cælo, et in terra.
Panem nostrum cotidianum da nobis hodie:
et dimitte nobis debita nostra,
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris:
et ne nos inducas in tentationem:
sed libera nos a malo.
Quia tuum est regnum,
et potestas, et gloria, in saecula.
Amen.
Amen.
Concluding prayer
Almighty God:
in your great goodness,
grant that we,
as pilgrims through the Easter mysteries,
may hold them fast in our lives;
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, world without end. Amen.
Alleluia!
In these strange times, we are called to trust
