Celebrating Easter Sunday from Home

Celebrating Easter Sunday from Home

In these worship resources, we conclude the Triduum, continuing our journey throughout this Easter Week.

The light of Easter comes out of the deepest darkness.

The joy of Easter can only be seen in the context of the pain that is all around us.

Adhuc ornaberis tympanis tuis, et egredieris in choro ludentium.

Again you shall take your tambourines,
and go forth in the dance of the merrymakers.

Jeremiah 31:4

The Liturgy of the Word

The light of Easter comes out of the deepest darkness.

The joy of Easter can only be seen in the context of the pain that is all around us.

Easter is no easy panacea, but rooted in reality,
in a world where tens of thousands of people have died,
and are still dying daily,
in a pandemic beyond our control.

And these figures are as nothing
compared to those who have died through governments and corporations
who act don’t care for the people they’re meant to serve.

For this we cry out both Kyrie eleison and Alleluia,
trusting in a God who knows the deepest secrets of our hearts,
whose Son descended into the very depths of human existence
to lead us home.

Kyrie eleison.

Alleluia.

Music for reflection

1 The glory of the cross we sing,
the cross of Jesus Christ our Lord,
who died and rose to set us free,
our way from death to life secured.

2 As once God’s people rested safe,
protected by a lamb’s own blood,
so we acclaim the sacrifice
of Jesus Christ the Lamb of God.

3 As once the Chosen People passed
from pain to freedom through the sea,
so now baptismal water saves
the chosen, called to liberty.

4 At Passover, before he died,
Christ Jesus took the bread and wine:
‘This is my body, this my blood,
do this as my memorial sign.’

5 What once by Jesus was achieved
we celebrate with heart and soul,
recalling and effecting now
the saving work that makes us whole.

The Lord’s Prayer

Almighty God,
who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ
overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life:
Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord’s resurrection,
may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Alleluia!

In these strange times, we are called to trust
